Music Together
Music Together is an internationally recognized music program for children and the grown-ups who love them. Parents, grandparents, teachers, and other caregivers—everyone is involved in the educational process. With songs in a range of musical styles from lyrical to blues and world music to folk, Music Together stimulates and supports the young child’s growing musical creativity, enthusiasm, and skills. In creating Music Together, Kenneth K. Guilmartin and his program co-author Lili M. Levinowitz, Ph.D., had the insight to develop a philosophy that guides the program to this day:
-
All children are musical.
-
All children can achieve basic music competence. This means that all children can learn to sing a tune with accurate rhythm.
-
The participation and modeling of parents and caregivers, regardless of their musical ability, is essential to a child’s musical growth.
-
This growth is best achieved in a playful, developmentally appropriate, nonperformance-oriented learning environment which is musically rich yet immediately accessible to the child’s and the adult’s participation!
Voyagers (4-year-olds) and Navigator (3-year-olds) will participate in a 10-week session of Music Together every year. Sessions are 45 minutes and take place once a week. Each family will receive a CD complete with all the music from the current Collection and a songbook to go with it. Each family will be invited to a Music Together Family session which supports the bridge that Winter Sun and Music Together try to build between school and home. We are honored to partner with such a fantastic early childhood music program.
Music Together enhances a child’s cognitive, emotional, social, physical, and language development. Simply put, music learning supports all learning.
